Wild Card Competition - AYCSA Wildrose Classic 2010
Requirements:
AYCS Competitors competing in the Wildcard competition must choose and complete 2 of the 3 options given for their age division.

Novice – up to 10 years of age as of Jan.1 2010
1. Create your own 3-D cow
• Use popsicle sticks, cardboard, paper, anything you can think of that will bring your cow to life! No size limit.

2. Simmentals rock because...
• Use pictures, a story, a scrapbook page, anything creative that shows why you think Simmentals rock!

3. T-Shirt Design
• Using a plain t-shirt of any size or color, create a funky t-shirt design that includes the name of our show, the location and the date. The more creative the better!

Junior – ages 11-14 as of Jan.1, 2010
1. Poster Design
• Make a poster promoting the beef cattle industry. Regular size poster paper must be used.

2. Short Story
• Write a short story on the topic of your choice. Maximum 3 pages double spaced. Minimum 1 page.

3. T-Shirt Design
• Promote the YCS program by designing a t-shirt. Any size and color is acceptable. The name of our show, the location and date must be on the t-shirt. A slogan must also be somewhere on the shirt.

Intermediate – 15 to 17 years of age as of Jan.1, 2010
1. Paperless Poster
• Without using paper, make a poster promoting the beef cattle industry.

2. Board Game
• Design a board game that involves cattle in some way. The more creative the better!

3. Pamphlet
• Create a pamphlet promoting the YCS program. Must be on a 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper.

Senior – 18-25 years of age as of Jan.1, 2010
1. Create a Novice Activity
• Given one hour’s time for your activity, create a learning activity for the novice kids that is to be executed and evaluated at the show. A written plan of the activity must also be submitted.

2. Show Plan
• Create a schedule, budget and written description of the competitions that are to be in your show. There is a minimum of 5 competitions that need to be planned.

3. Advertising package

• Create an advertising package for YCS. The package should include a written plan, a magazine advertisement and a website homepage. The website homepage is to be done on paper. The three elements of the package should promote the YCS program and encourage young simmentalers to come to the show.

Drayton Valley Livestock Show
Saturday June 12, 2010 - Drayton Valley Alberta

Show Includes: Jackpot Heifers, Steers, Junior Show and Showmanship, Open show for calendar year calves, yearling heifers and bull, 2 yr old and mature cows, 2yr old bulls, Pen of 3 purebred and commercial heifers.
• Over $15,000 in cash and prizes
• Exhibitor draws  for attending
• Free Beef on a Bun lunch.

Alberta Young Canadian Simmental Show
Hello YCS members!

This years Alberta Young Canadian Simmental Show will be held on July 13-16 in Olds, Alberta. There will be other breed shows there as well. So YCS members have a chance to compete in more then one show! The other breeds include Angus, Hereford, Charolais, Gelvieh, and of course Simmental! There is also a show called Summer Synergy. By paying a $50 entry fee, members aged 12-20 can compete for more prizes and scholarships. There is also a heifer jackpot show which can be entered there. For members wanting to compete in YCS, Summer Synergy or any other breed show, the new deadline is June 20th to Ashley Berkholtz with no extra fees for the 2010 YCS show. The entry form and Summer Synergy info are on this site. Any questions please do not hesitate to ask one of the board members. My email is jbuba@ualberta.ca. It is sure to be a good time! ANNOUNCEMENT:

Alberta Young Simmental Report:

Hi everyone! This year has brought many changes to the annual Alberta Young Canadian Simmental Show. The 2009 show will be held August 5th  and 6th in Olds,Alberta. The show will take place in the newly built  Megadome which is part of the Olds Ag. Society. This years show will  be held just prior to Olds Fair, which is and all breeds show as well  as a junior show. AYCS members have the opportunity to stay and take  part in Olds Fair festivities. The open show at Olds Fair is strictly  purebred cattle but the junior show allows for commercial cattle as  well as purebred cattle. There is also scholarship opportunities with  the Olds Fair junior show. The AYCS show will be condensed into 2  days, but will still encorporate lots of fun and challenging  activities.
